Meet Dr. Booth

Dr. Edwin L. Booth, Jr

Your teeth can be beautiful, but first they need to be healthy! Getting there should be pain free. This is a practice philosophy of mine which comes from a lifelong belief in health, fitness, and the desire to not experience dental pain!

In the twenty-first century, medical research continues to link our oral health to our overall health in increasingly significant ways, and I feel that it’s incumbent upon us as dental professionals to always practice with that in mind.

I’m a native of Greensboro and knew early in life that I wanted to become a dentist. I was inspired by what I experienced—or endured—as a patient of my own family dentist who performed clinically beautiful but dreadfully painful work—and unfortunately had a personality to match!

My idea was to be the dentist who could achieve the clinical artistry and perfection of my family dentist but without the pain, and to do so in a lively, friendly, caring environment.

Following high-school graduation from Oak Ridge Military Academy, I received my Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Wake Forest University. Immediately following that, I was honored to be accepted into Emory University’s dental school in Atlanta, Georgia. After four intense years at Emory, I was very proud to be awarded my Doctor of Dental Surgery from that phenomenal university.

During my time at Emory, I rotated through Grady Memorial Hospital and Ben Massell Clinic in Atlanta, which gave me invaluable experience working on real patients in difficult, real-world environments.

After graduating from Emory, I returned to Greensboro to open a private practice with a focus on general, family, and cosmetic dentistry. I have made it my mission to deliver pain-free dentistry because I never want my patients to experience what I did growing up. A comfortable, pain-free experience is what everyone wants and deserves!

While practicing, I continued my post-doctorate education by completing a year-long mini-residency program in fixed prosthodontics at UNC Chapel Hill’s Dental School, and a practice continuum at L.D. Pankey Institute in Florida. I also acquired Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

My love for the outdoors led me to seek a Wilderness First Aid certification from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). That, in turn, led me to complete my Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification through the NOLS Wilderness Medical Institute—a grueling but worthwhile experience! (Emergencies happen in the back country more often than you’d think.) More recently I was certified as a Leave No Trace (LNT) Master Educator. I am proud to say that I am one of only 8,000 LNT Master Educators in the world!

By the way, I encourage everyone reading this to check out Leave No Trace. LNT is a remarkable grass-roots program aimed at educating everyone on how doing simple things can have a lasting impact on our environment!

I am a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, North Carolina Dental Society, Guilford County Dental Society, and Triad Study Club, and served as a past vice-president of the North Carolina Dental Society, Third District. I also served on the former Greensboro Humana Hospital staff for 15 years performing charitable dental services, and I taught in the dental-assisting program at Guilford Technical Community College.

I am all about continuing education—you have to know what’s new, what’s changed, and what’s coming around the corner—so I always exceed my post-doctorate continuing education requirements through classroom, outdoor, and hands-on participation courses.

As a former professional triathlete sponsored by Hawaiian Tropic (yes, I once did that on my weekends off), I still like to challenge myself physically and mentally through running, hiking, skiing, weight-lifting, outdoor adventures, traveling, and reading outdoor and historical biographies.

I will always be thankful for this remarkable, rewarding, and worthwhile career—especially for the patients I’ve been able to meet and get to know and help, and for their incredible loyalty and support!
